Scene 19 - Rory enters the main gallery. [blacked out description] She heads over to a watercooler and is pouring herself a glass of water when LUCY (a pretty, artsy girl) asks what she's doing while looking at her horrified. Lucy gets the attention of her friend OLIVIA (a coolly-intimidating girl) and tells her that Rory is touching her art. Olivia asks Rory what's she's doing, is she drinking that water? Rory apologizes and says she didn't know it was art. Rory says she thought it was just a watercooler which offends Olivia. Lucy says it's Olivia's self-portrait and then says she's kidding and it is just a watercooler. Rory is a bit befuddled. Olivia points to a horse made out of cans and says she made it. Rory says she liked it and it looks bigger than the doorway. Olivia says that it turns out it was too big and she had to detach the head 4 hours before the show and reattach it. She asks if it looks crooked. They all look at the horse. Lucy says that if it does look crooked is looks better than it did before. More jaunty. Rory asks what it's made of. Olivia says it's cans mostly, tinfoil, a couple hubcaps. She does stuff with found objects. Lucy talks about a sculpture Olivia made of an old lady out of plastic bags and orange cones. She says Olivia is awesome and Olivia modestly tells her to shut up. Rory refers to her notebook and asks if she's Olivia Marquand. Lucy asks if she's a spy. Rory says she's with the paper. Olivia asks what she thinks of the show and Rory says she's not sure, but she likes Olivia's stuff and the robot in the underpants. Lucy says they used to be obsessed with a girl who worked at the paper, Paris Gellar. Rory says she knows paris. The girls says she was the most intense person they'd ever met and ask what she's like out of class. Rory says she's pretty much like that all the time and that she went to high school with Paris. Lucy jokes about whether Rory'd like her to kiss her feet now or later. Rory says Later is fine. Olivia says Paris is a genius.
The girls show Rory around the show. Lucy says they'll help her with her article, give her the skinny on everyone. Their friend Joel did a lightbulb thing that semi-blinds people as they pass. Olivia thinks he's a genius but says she might be biased since he's a total fox. Rory asks if he's the guy in the seventies prom tux. Lucy says that's Elijah and he's doing a performance piece, that he's been doing since they were juniors and who knows if it'll ever end. She says Rory has to see their friend Katja's piece called "Girl without Clothes". Rory is pulled along by their enthusiam and looks in the room where the "piece" is. [we don't see it] Rory is startled and says she can see where the title came from. She says the girl commits. Lucy yells out to Katja and introduces Rory. Says she knows Paris Gellar. [blacked out lines] Olivia asks what she thinks and Rory says it's genius. Rory tries to go with the flow and allows herself to be pulled into the gallery space by her exuberant new friends.
Scene 22 - Night 3 - Yale Campus - Rory, Lucy and Olivia walk across campus after the art show, debating what to do next. They're not drunk, but are affected by the wine they drank. Olivia and Lucy talk about a freshman party that's going on and the fact that Olivia wants to go to it. Olivia says not everyone has a boyfriend and she could do with a freshman boyfriend who would adore her and her mature ways. Lucy says she's starving and needs fries and Olivia would feel guilty if she dies of starvation. Olivia asks what if she dies of a lack of a worshipful boyfriend and how embarrassing her obituary would be. Lucy tells Rory she's the tie-breaker: french fries or freshman party? Rory says she actually should be heading home. The girls protest and tell her to write her article later when she tries to use it as an excuse. Lucy says she needs to let her thoughts percolate. Rory tries to talk her way out again when Lucy decides how they'll figure out what to do - a Groove Off. Olivia says she's on. Lucy tells Rory to judge. Rory doesn't know what she's judging. Lucy says they're gonna need a better judge.
They spot a guy across campus walking towards them, it's Richard. Olivia says he's such a judge. Rory says it's her grandfather and Olivia jokes that he's her grandfather too. Lucy asks Richard if he's a judge. Richard recognizes Rory and then tells Lucy that he's a visiting lecturer and Rory's grandfather. Lucy: "Oh my god, he really is your grandfather." Richard shakes their hands and asks how they are. Lucy compliments is knockout bow tie then says they're in terrible need of a judge for a Groove Off and asks if he can help them out. Richard asks if he's qualified and Lucy says that the bow tie alone qualifies him. He accepts and Lucy and Olivia square off, eyes on each other. Richard asks if he's judging on the quality of the moves or the spirit with which they are executed. Olivia says both and Lucy says the moves are important but you have to bring something special to the table. Richard tells them to groove away. Lucy and Olivia stare intently at each other as they begin to dance, each improvising their own peculiar moves. Rory watches as the girls groove without self-consciousness. After a beat the girls freeze and turn to Richard to be judged. He says that they're both strong, but Olivia wins. Lucy says her grooving was too on the nose tonight and concedes the Groove Off. Richard says he better be getting home but it was a treat running into them.
Scene 25 - Night 3 - Logan's Apartment - Rory enters with Lucy and Olivia behind her, all mid-conversation and giddy. Lucy is telling a story about call-backs and a guy who took the production too seriously and then came back to Lucy later about another production after she ran into the door on the way out. Lucy takes in the place and excalims to Rory that her boyfriend's rich. [blacked out line] The girls start exploring the apartment, Lucy goes to the kitchen and Olivia to the stereo. Lucy opens cabinets and asks if she has popcorn. Olivia puts on some music (Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" blasts and Olivia starts to dance). Lucy remarks that Rory has a lot of rice, then finds an air popper. She needs popcorn now...or something else that can be cooked. Rice! The phone rings and Rory says that must be her Logan call. She didn't realize it was so late. Lucy says time flies when you're partying with freshmen
