Wenn das mal kein Update verdient... Big Grin

Their food arrived 15 minutes later. After Derek’d given the room service a bounteous tip, he returned with their food, placed on a silver tray.

“Dinner’s served.” He lifted the cover and placed the tray on the table. Meredith closed her eyes and sniffed greedily.

“Mmmmmh, it smells yummie!”

Derek handed her the cutlery. “Enjoy your meal!”

Meredith didn’t wait to be told twice. She eagerly grabbed fork and knife and started to dissect her salmon. She shut her eyes and moaned in pure delight when the first bit hit her palate.

“This,” she pointed on the dead fish on her plate with the knife, “tastes great!” She took another bite, looked up and frowned when she noticed him, his chin resting in his palms, looking at her. She swallowed and raised an eyebrow. “You’re watching me eat? That’s odd, Mr. Shepherd.”

“You’re cute when you eat. You’re eyes twinkle like a child’s on Christmas Eve.” he said, smiling lovely.

“They’re not!” she pouted. “Besides. You have to eat something too.” She filled up their glasses again. “Or there will be no dessert for you. Which means there’d be more for me.” She smirked. “But I’m the sharing kind of girl, luckily for you. So eat up and I may consider to leave you something of the cake.”

He sighed. “Very bossy. I like that.” He picked some salad and stuffed it into his mouth.

“Good boy.” She mumbled, patting his knee.

She’d finished her meal in no time while he’d had problems to finish off half of his. He felt like he would burst at any second but she was already about to unpack the cake.

“Meredith, pleeeeease.” he whined. “I can’t. I’ve had enough. One more bite and you will have to wipe me up off the floor.”

“Don’t be such a baby!” She shovelled some of the cake on her fork and moved it towards his mouth. “Open wide.” She frowned. “That sounded vaguely dirty, right?”

“Kind of, yeah.”

She shrugged. “Never mind. Come on Derek, try the cake.”

Reluctantly, he opened his mouth and she placed the sweet dessert on his tongue. When he noticed that she was still looking at him, expecting, he let out a moan. Maybe a little too exaggerated… But she seemed satisfied. Cheerfully, she reached for another bite, dipped it into the whip cream and put it into her mouth.

“Mmmmh,” she chewed enthusiastically. “I’m in cake heaven! This is sooo good…” She already shovelled another portion into her mouth.

“You have crumbs.” Derek whispered, taking a napkin from the tray and placed it on her perfect pink lips, gently brushing the crumbs away. His eyes found hers again. Sparkling green. And lovely.

“Thank you.” Her voice was trembling, just like several other parts of her body. And this time? So not because of the chill.

“You’re welcome.” He slowly moves her fingers down her cheek, slightly touching her chin and still unable to take his eyes off of hers. Unable to stop smiling. He was completely overwhelmed by a feeling he hasn’t experienced in a very long time. Hasn’t experienced at all. Especially not in such a short time. He’s known her for a couple of hours and yet got goose bumps whenever she looked at him. Adrenaline shot through his body whenever her slim fingers accidentally brushed his arm or his leg. When she giggled… his heart changed its rhythm. She literally took his breath away.

He slowly leaned in closer to her lips, his right hand still on her cheek. He was now inches away from her face.

She could feel his hot breath brushing against her lips. Her eyes were locked with his. She shut them down in sweet anticipation. Waiting for what was coming next. She breathed him in, getting drunk of his scent. His lips inches away from hers.

The flashback hit her like a lightning.

The flashback hit her like a lightning.

“Meredith, wait!” he yelled after her, wrapping the sheet around his naked body.

“Leave me the hell alone, Gary!” She stumbled down the stairs. She felt sick. And dizzy. And she wanted to vomit.

“Baby, it’s not what you think..-“

“Don’t call me baby you son of a bitch!” The tears began to flow and she started to sob hysterically. She wasn’t able to look him in the eyes. Never again.

“Mer, it just… sort of… happened. I doesn’t mean anything, dammit!” he sounded almost angry, causing her head to spin like a carousel. She seriously, badly wanted to vomit right now. She sat down on the stairs. Everything around her blurred. Her lids became heavy. She shut them down. His loud voice came from far away. Except he was standing right behind her. Her body hurt. But she was numb, so she didn’t mind.
Splitting headache. From his voice. The pain was pounding against her temples. Tap, tap, tap.
But she didn’t mind.
She rested her forehead against the wooden banister.

“Please,” she whispered, “just shut the hell up.”

He kneeled down to touch her shoulder but she rocketed up like a scalded cat.

“Get your fucking hands off of me!” she yelled, the tears pouring down her face. “You touched her with these hands, right? Don’t. You. Dare. To. Touch. Me. Ever. Again.” she whispered between sobs. “Get out off my house already!”

When reality caught up with her, she opened her now tear-filled eyes in shock. She gasped and felt her body shaking uncontrollably. Derek looked at her. The way he was looking at her almost broke her heart. Confused. Concerned. Worried. Caring. Dreamy. All Derek-y. Being just… him. And she. Was avoiding.

“I can… can’t… I’m sorry but… go. Me. I… have to go. Now.” she stammered and got up to her feet, still shaking.

“Meredith, you’re okay?” Derek was confused. His heart was still bumping wildly in his chest, caused by their near kiss experience. He’d almost felt her soft lips on his when she’d suddenly pulled back because something or someone obviously had made her feel uncomfortable. And he imploringly hoped that it wasn’t about him.

“I’m fine.” She tried to stay calm but she failed. Miserably. “I’m.. great and… fine… and it’s just… I’m just… Fine.”

Liar, liar, liar, a tiny voice bellowed in her head but she shut it off. Avoiding. She was avoiding. And far from being fine.

“I just need to leave. Now.” she shifted the pillows on the couch, desperately looking for something. “Where’s my purse, dammit!” She ran her fingers through her hair.

“Meredith,” His voice was calm and soothing. She looked at him. God… she wanted to hold him close so badly… “you don’t look fine.” He handed her the purse. “Did I do something wrong? Just tell me, please.”

She swallowed hard. There it was again. The Sad Puppy Face. Damn, damn, damn!

“No, you… were perfect.” she whispered. “It’s just that… I’m fine. And I have to leave.” She grabbed her purse from his hands. “Now.”

None of them had noticed yet that the others have listened curiously to their conversation for several minutes. Now, Mark leaned closer to Derek.

“Dude, you screwed up. What did you said to her? Did you tell her that story from High School? Told ya that girls are not interested in that kind of stuff.”

Derek ignored him. His thoughts were spinning and he tried to figure out what of his actions may have contributed to her bizarre behaviour. But there was nothing he could call to account.

Meredith was already rushing towards the door when she heard Izzie’s voice behind her.

“Mer, wait!” she reached for her coat Alex handed her and turned around, lifting her right arm and formed that specific sign known in rocker circles with her fingers. “Rock Star!” She smiled brightly. “Keep the party goin’, guys!” she added and followed Meredith with brisk steps.

“I’m right behind you!” Cristina yelled, staggering around picking up her remaining clothes.

“I’M COMING TOO!” George yelled, babbly, yet noticing that he’s wearing nothing but… a pillow. “I’LL CATCH UP WITH YOU THEN!”

Derek was still standing there, rooted on the spot. He looked at the door in disbelief. How the hell could that happen? One moment they were almost kissing. The next moment. BANG! That just… sucked. That seriously… badly… freaking… sucked.

Shit! Fuck! Damn! Shit! Fuck! Damn! Shuckamn!

Denny patted his back encouragingly.

“Cheer up, buddy! She’ll come back.” He sighed. “They always do.”

Hubba Hubba.

The next morning.
Meredith blinked dozily when the shrill sound of her alarm clock reached her ears. She grumbled into her pillow and pulled the cover further over her head, regretting the sweet process of sleeping where she wouldn’t have to feel anything or think about anything or listen to anything. Where she could just… sleep. And dream. And forget about the previous night. Which had been completely… undeniably… disastrous.
And that was still monumentally understated.

She grumbled again, her voice muffled from the cushions, and finally reached for the alarm to shut it off.
She had barely made it to her bad when she’d returned early in the morning. She’d just wanted to drop to the floor, shut her eyes and stop thinking about what just had happened. But Izzie’d forced her to get up and lay down in her bed. She’d had one of her mommy moments where she was all kind and considerate and caring and worried. She’d even offered to bear her company during the night which she’d done a lot during the last weeks, but she’d politely declined her well-meant suggestion. She’d just wanted to be alone.
She hadn’t found any sleep till dawn since her mind wouldn’t stop acting like a freaking merry-go-around. She’d tried to ban the aching memories from her head but it was for the birds. And so, when sleep had finally hit her, it had been almost time to get up again.

The guy who invented the alarm clock? He sucked.

Grudgingly, she drugged herself to her feet, stretched her arms, thought, for a short moment, about the opinion to care a bloody shit about the day and go to bed again instead, stretched her legs and shuffled down the stairs to the kitchen.

“Morning.” she yawned groggily when she came into the room. Izzie was standing in front of the stove, a pink apron tied around her waist and a couple of pans in front of her. The luscious aroma of freshly baked pancakes brushed against Meredith’s nostrils, causing her mouth to water.

“Oh Iz, if I had to chose my favourite person of the day right now, I would name you.” Mer sighed and poured herself a cup of coffee. Black. Steaming. Full of caffeine.

The guy who invented caffeine: he may be praised.

Izzie placed some of the pancakes on a clean plate and handed it to her.

“I’m glad there’s someone in that house who isn’t knee-walking drunk and able to keep a breakfast in his stomach for more than five minutes.” she said, pointing with a wooden spoon at George who was sitting at the kitchen table, his forehead resting on the tabletop.

“Correction.” he mumbled without lifting his head. “I’m hung-over now.”

Izzie rolled her eyes irritatedly. “Yeah whatever.” She turned her gaze to Cristina who has just entered the room, still looking groggy, her hair sticking out in every direction.

“Morning, sleepy drunky head.”

“My head hurts.” Cristina moaned and fell into the chair next to George.

“Maybe it’s a tumor.” Izzie replied sarcastically and placed a plate in front of her.

Cristina wrinkled her nose in disgust and brushed the pancakes aside. “I prefer to call it a hangover.” she muttered as she cupped her face in her hands. “The worst I ever had.”

Meredith took a sip of the black liquid in her Hello Kitty cup. When the hot fluid was running down her throat and started to warm her up, both physically and emotionally, she sat down at the other end of the table.

“Let’s play a game of whose life sucks the most.” she put her cup down and looked from face to face.

“Uh, in careful consideration of the fact that last night you rushed out off the suite like freaking Cinderella, leaving McDreamy standing there looking like a kicked dog, I really don’t think that I wanna play with you.” Cristina replied while she tried to tame her messy locks. “You’d be head and shoulders above me.”

“There, you’re absolutely… totally… completely… from top to bottom… right.” Meredith sighed. “I feel miserable… I hadn’t planned to freak out. I hadn’t planned to… make him feel sad because of me.”

“Oh please, Mer.” Cristina moaned. “He is a rock star. He probably has an ego the size of Texas. I guess it needs more than being turned down to destroy it.”

“Yeah…” Meredith said moonily. “Probably.”

We will see Big Grin

Noch jemand wach?

“Anyway, Mer…” Izzie had joined them and was now looking at Meredith with her doe eyes. “What happened yesterday? We saw you, you know… And you two seemed so smitten with each other… You wanna talk about it?”

Meredith sighed. And sighed. And sighed. And finally began to speak. “It was the memory. Of that night. When I… when I caught them… It was as if somebody pulled the rug out from under me… All the feelings… they came back. And it hurt… It hurt so much.” She felt her eyes filling with tears again and quickly rubbed them. She let out a sardonic laugh. “Guess it’s time for me to stop crying after him.”

“Yeah,” Cristina nodded, “but what would you do with all your free time? OOOW, that hurt!” She rubbed her aching shin and glanced at Izzie who threw an angry look at her.

“We. Are her friends! We’re supposed to cheer her up, not to pull her down.” She slightly shook her head and turned her gaze back to Meredith who tap, tap, tapped her fingertips nervously on the table board. “Listen, Mer. What Gary did to you? It sucked. It sucked in the worst way. And I get that it’s hard to forget about him. That it’s hard to forget the pain. But you know… not all men are assholes.”

“I would not sell my grandma for that…” Cristina mumbled and earned a second kick from Izzie. “IZZIE, STOP IT!”

“Then stop being unsupportive!”

“I’m not unsupportive, I’m giving the girl a reality check. And I didn’t say that we can blame the men for being… male. It’s because of the testosterone. It turns men into morons. But,” she added quickly when she noticed that Izzie prepared herself for the next kick, “at least your rock star is good-looking so you should go and have some fun with him.”

Meredith sighed. “I suppose some girls might find him good-looking…”

Everyone looked at her.

“If they have eyes…” she added.

Everyone was still looking at her.

“Okaaaay, he’s a honey.” she finally gives in. She giggled. “And he smells good.”

“You should call him.” Izzie said, chewing on her pancake.

“Can’t… I don’t have his number.”

“I do.” Cristina shrugged her shoulders. “Mark wrote it down on the back of my panties before I left.”

Now, everyone turned his look to Cristina. George, who has been as quiet as a mouse all the time, let out an unidentifiable noise.

“Bad… Bad images in my head…”

Meredith bit her lip. No. She couldn’t deal with those things now. Not yet. She was an emotional wreck, how was she supposed to have fun with… emotional stuff? Plus the old Gary Wound hasn’t healed completely yet and was ripped off from time to time by some of those horrible flashbacks every time she saw something or smelled something or did something that reminded her of him. It sucked but she couldn’t help it. She’d tried. She’d strictly kept with the Cristina Break Up Rules that told her to burn up every photo on which he looked sexy and she looked happy but unfortunately, she couldn’t just burn up her memories.
And now her friends wanted her to go out with a rock star. A handsome rock star, though. With damn fine hair. Who’d looked at her as if she was the most impressive thing on earth he had ever seen.
They couldn’t be serious, could they?

“Hey, nobody asked you to marry him, Mer.” Cristina said as if she could read her mind. Which she probably could because she was Cristina and her person.

Silence.

“I think I should call Miranda now, you know.” Meredith suddenly pulled back her chair. “She probably wonders why I haven’t called her yet.” Saying this, she left the room.

Izzie let out a desperate sigh. “Great, she’s avoiding again. It’s getting a little hard to watch.”

“Naah, it was hard to watch three weeks ago.” Cristina sipped at her coffee. “Now it’s just pathetic.”
