Gleich werd ich rot... :o

[Extra Large]

“Get ready, we’re going shopping.” Cristina peeked into Meredith’s room and wrinkled her forehead when she saw her laying outstretched on her queen-size bed, eyes closed and not showing the slightest inclination to get up. “Now!”

“Huh?” Meredith rubbed her nose and looked up at Cristina who had started to riffle through her wardrobe, looking for clothes.

“You. Me. Izzie. The Mall. Now.” For some reason, Cristina seemed to be a little irritated. She handed Meredith a lavender blue top and simple jeans. “Here, put these on.”

Meredith took the clothes and narrowed her eyes sceptically. “But you hate the Mall.”

“Well, this is me being supportive.” she replied impatiently. “You suck when you have a crush on someone.”

Meredith was about to strip her top off her head but stopped at the second. “I do not ha…-“

“”Yeah, whatever.” Cristina pushed her out off the room and down the stairs to the hall where Izzie was already waiting, raring to go. She eyed Meredith from tip to toe and wrinkled her nose.

“Mer, you should do something with your hair. Seriously.” She held up a loose strand. “It’s all messed up. You look like Cristina.” She tried to straighten Meredith’s hair with her palm but she ducked her head.

“What the hell is wrong with you guys?”

“Nothing.” Cristina said quickly and narrowed her eyes at Izzie.

Izzie opened her mouth to say something, looked at Cristina and changed her mind. “Nothing.” she answered instead, grinning like a Cheshire Cat. “Just happy to go to the Mall, you know. I looove the Mall.” To emphasize her statement, she cheerfully hopped up and down on her feet like a child, causing Cristina to roll her eyes.
Meredith looked at her, raising an eyebrow.

“Hey, I’m just being supportive.” she shrugged and headed out off the door.

17 minutes and 53 seconds later they arrived at WestfieldCenturyCityShopping Center at Santa Monica Blvd. Meredith locked her silver BMW and they rushed towards the entrance with childlike excitement.
When they stepped through the doorway, Meredith could hardly believe her eyes. The first floor was almost deserted; merely here and there they saw someone looking at a shop window or running up and down on the escalators. This was odd. Usually at that time, the place was overcrowded with all those shopaholics, carrying countless shopping bags of Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s or Tiffany & Co, Mom’s with strollers and bunches of teenagers.
It was like entering a ghost town. Creepy.

Meredith pushed up her sunglasses and tugged at Izzie’s arm. “What does this mean?” she whispered.

Before Izzie could answer that, someone tapped Meredith on the shoulder, causing her to spin around.

“Uhm… excuse me, may I have an autograph, please?” A cute little girl, maybe at the age of six, looked at her with huge brown eyes. She blushed when Meredith smiled at her and looked bashfully at her feet.

“Sure sweetie, what’s your name?” Meredith kneeled down and took the piece of paper and the pen the girl handed her with shaking hands.

“Abbey.” she answered in a low voice, now grinning shyly at her.

“Oh, that’s an adorable name.” Meredith winked at her and gave her the signed paper back. “So are you’re here with your mommy or daddy?” she asked the girl whose face now glowed for joy.

“Yes, my mommy’s waiting over there.” She turned around and waved at a blonde tall woman, maybe 30, who was standing slightly away. Now, she slowly walked up to them, smiling apologetically at Meredith.

“I’m sorry, I hope my daughter didn’t bother you. I told her not to…-“

“Oh no, it’s okay.” Meredith put her off. “She was very polite.”

“This was such an exciting day for her.” The woman laid an arm around her daughter’s shoulders and pulled her close. “First she met Derek Shepherd, now you…”

Meredith’s eyes widened at the sound of the name. “Pardon me?”

The woman looked a little confused and darted a glance at Izzie and Cristina who both just smirked to each other. “Uhm… Derek Shepherd… he and the band are having an autograph session on the third floor.” She pointed at a poster at one of the windows which announced said event.

Meredith swallowed. It finally sunk in. Her so-called friends had planned this. Meanly… cruelly… behind her back… planned this.
She decided, fo now, to push this dirty trick to the back of her mind and smiled at Abbey and her mother. “I see… Derek Shepherd, huh?” With a twinkle in her eyes, she glanced at the girl whose eyes in turn began to shine immediately.

“Uhumm! I have a crush on him!” she said proudly.

Meredith giggled. “I’ve heard he tends to have that affect on girls.”

“You should get an autograph too.” Abbey babbled nonstop. “He’s very cute, you know.”

“Yeah, I’ve heard about that too.” She darted a glance at Izzie and Cristina who in chorus shrugged their shoulders and then turned her gaze back to the little girl. “Anyway… I think we should go now.” She leaned down to give Abbey a hug and shook hands with her mother. “It was nice to meet you. Take care, Abbey.” She waved at them once more and then turned on her heel, heading towards the escalator.

“Hey, where you’re going missy?” Izzie yelled after her.

She looked back over her shoulder. “Getting my autograph, silly head!” she yelled back.

“Wait,” Cristina frowned, “no yelling? No crying? Nothing of the things you usually do when you’re… pissed off?”

Meredith shrugged. “Nope.” She stepped onto the moving stairs. “Plus, who says I’m pissed off?”

Izzie and Cristina both were standing at the bottom of the escalator, gazing after Meredith, open-mouthed and speechless, until Cristina found her words again.

“Okay, right now,” she whispered, “she’s scaring the shit out off me.”

UpdateUpdateUpdate. [sogar noch länger als das letzte o.O]

When they reached the third floor, it was exactly the opposite of what they’d seen when they’d entered the Mall: hundreds of people were screaming and crying and babbling and hyperventilating in front of three tables that were put together. No need to say who was sitting at them.
Derek, Callie, Mark, Denny and Alex each had a huge pile of autograph cards and two bottles of water in front of them, signing card after card after card, here and there taking a photo with a more or less hysteric fan, doing the usual cursory blah blah blah, and looking tired but happy.

“Holy!” The word escaped from Meredith’s mouth, half in shock, half in amusement. She didn’t dare to take off her sunglasses but instead pulled her baggy hat slightly down over her eyes and hoped pleadingly that she would stay incognito. But at the moment, she was confident that this was not going to be a problem since all eyes were focused on the band.

“Crap!” Cristina yelled but lowered her voice when Meredith gave her the evil eye. “Crap!” she whispered again. “Look at all these braces. Eew!” She shudders. “Reminds me of my youth.”

“You wore braces?” asked Meredith gleefully while they were lining up in the huge queue. “Can I see a photo?”

“I burnt them.”

“You burnt your braces?”

“No, the photos. I flushed the braces down the toilet.”

“Too bad.” Meredith smirked. “Now I have nothing to blackmail you with.”

Two hours and 21 minutes. For two hours and 21 minutes he has been signing photos and tops and t-shirts and CD’s and posters… even a couple of panties and two bras. His right hand hurt. His head hurt. His foot hurt too because some heedless fan girl has stepped on it with her high heels. He didn’t know if she’d done it on purpose. Maybe she would boast herself in front of her friends about stepping on Derek Shepherd’s left foot. But maybe it was accidental and she was embarrassed about stepping on Derek Shepherd’s left foot.
He sighed and looked up at the next in the queue who held an older photo of the band out towards him. He forced a polite smile, asked the girl if she was fine, she said yes, he asked for her name, she said her name was Carrie, he asked if she spelled her name with a “y” at the end, she said no, with “ie”, he wrote “to Carrie, love, Derek” on the picture, handed it back to her, said Good Bye and reached for the next photo or CD or piece of clothing. Again. And again. And again. And so did the other band members. He bandied some desperate looks with Mark, sighed and grasped at a piece of paper someone handed him without looking up.

“What’s your name?” he asked, his marker ready to write whatever he or she would answer.

“Meredith.” the person said. Derek finally looked up… recognizing her voice… making him gasp in sweet surprise… She smiled at him. “But Big Fool will work too.”

Poof. There she was. Standing right in front of him. Asking for an autograph. Admitting she had been a big fool. A cute one, though. He slightly shook his head at how incredible she was, standing right there, admitting, and smiled back at her. It confused him that he couldn’t look into her emerald eyes. They were the most expressive part of her beautiful face. But she smiled at him so, he guessed, her eyes were smiling too.

For one second, or two, or three, he just smiled, absorbing her pure presence. Wondering why he was such a lucky devil. But, as said before, you always meet twice in L.A.

“Hey.” He finally was able to form words again.

Still with a grin on her face and apparently amused of which effect she had on him, she pointed at the paper she had given him before. “Do I get my autograph or what?”

He chuckled. “Sure. But not on this crappy piece of paper.” He took one of the autograph cards, a pretty black and white photography showing him standing in front of a white background, hands in his trouser pockets, and looking directly in the camera. Sexy and hot. He signed it and handed it to her. “There you go.”

* Autograph

When she reached for the card, her fingertips slightly brushed the back of his hand. Causing both of their hearts to change their rhythm. She read the dedication. To Meredith… The cutest Big Fool I’ve ever met. Love, Derek. She tried to calm her madly pounding heart down by taking one, two, three deep breaths and smiled at him. “Thank you, Mr Shepherd.”

“You’re welcome.” he whispered hoarsely, pulling his hand back from her touch.

She bit her lip. “Derek, about the other night,” she started and turned around to make sure nobody was about to attack her for holding up the progress. “I’m really… dearly… truly sorry for… what I did… or not did… However you want to call what I did… or… not did.” She frowned and then let out a sigh. “My point is, I’m sorry.”

Derek listened to her little speech in amusement. He couldn’t help it. She was so cute when she babbled. “Meredith, it’s okay.”

“No, it’s not. It’s far from okay. It’s about a hundred miles from okay.” she replied desperately.

Ask her, the familiar tiny voice bellowed. Ask her!

“Well, if you insist,” Derek leaned forward and lowered his voice, “make up for it. Say, tonight?”

“Huh?” Meredith looked a little lost now and Derek had a hard time to choke his laughter.

“We have a gig tonight at a charity event in Santa Monica, you apparently owe me something, so I beg you for coming.” His mouth was formed into a mischievous smile and his blue eyes were sparkling at her. She was glad to wear sunglasses right now.

Bad, bad, bad! someone shrieked inside her head. Say no!

“I…” She looked for some kind of excuse but nothing would come to her mind. And as he said… she owed him something. And to make matters worse, he now gave her his most perfect McDreamy head tilt, making it even harder for her to deny his request. This man played dirty! “Okay.” she finally gave in.

“Great!” Derek smiled from ear to ear. He reached for the card he had given her some minutes ago. “Gimme that.” He turned it, wrote down the address of the place and gave it back to her. “We start playing at 9 pm. Guess I have something to look forward to now.”

“Come on blondie, we’re waiting!” Meredith turned around abruptly and faced an annoyed-looking dark-haired teenage girl who pointed at the mass behind her.

“I should go now.” she said and twirled the autograph card in her fingers. She was about to spin on her heel but then changed her mind. She offered him her right hand and gave him an archly smile. “It was a pleasure to meet you, Mr Shepherd.”

He took her hand in his and squeezed it gently. “The pleasure’s all mine.” He couldn’t hide how glad he was that she’d accepted his invitation and jokingly peeped around. “So see you tonight then.” he added in an excessive mysterious tone, playfully winking at her. “I make sure you will get the best seats.”

“I hope so.” she whispered back. “Bye.” she smiled at him one last time and finally headed off.

Song playing “Not Tonight” by Tegan and Sara

Love pull your sore ribs in
I will pull your tangles out
In the back of your car I feel like
I have travelled nowhere

“Crap! Crap, crap, crap!”

As soon as they had unlocked the front door, Meredith had dashed up the stairs and barricaded herself in her room. She immediately had rushed to her closet and torn it open, starting to throw several contemplable dresses over her shoulder onto her bed where they, slowly but surely, had formed a giant pile of halter-neck dresses, backless dresses, strapless dresses, low-cut dresses, plain dresses, long dresses, short dresses and calf-length dresses in variant colours. But yet…

“Crappy crap!”

“Hey, what are you doing? Wow!” Izzie walked into the room, munching on some potato chips and chuckled when she noticed Meredith standing among millions of frightfully expensive designer dresses, on the edge of mental breakdown.

What will bring me home?
What will make me stay, stay?
What will bring me home?
What will make me stay, stay?

“I have nothing to wear!” she whined desperately, collapsing onto her downy cushions.

Izzie moved closer, reached for a pretty mint-coloured evening gown and held it up, examining. “And what is this?”

“This is crap!” Meredith grumbled sulkily. “How am I supposed to go to a charity event when I have nothing but crap to cover my body with, huh?” She ran her fingers through her blonde hair in an annoyed manner. “I hate that man! Doesn’t he know that women need at least one week two decide what they are going to wear? And he wants me to choose in four freaking hours? Seriously? Seriously??”
She wondered how on earth a man could be so stupid.

Well I don't know
I don't know, ooh
I don't know
I don't know, ooh

“Maybe you should just go naked then.” Izzie giggled. “I bet your horny rock star would be okay with that.”

Meredith gave her a dirty look and threw a shoe at her. “Are you going to help or what?”

Izzie sat down on the other side of the bed and looked for another dress in the pile. “Okay, okay, I’ll help you. The colour has to reflect your mood so… What colour do you feel like? It’s darkish, right? You look pretty darkish to me…” She ducked as Meredith threw another shoe at her. “Stop it! Okay, I eat my words so… How do you feel like?”

Everything in my body says not tonight
Everything in my body says no
Everything in my body says not tonight
Everything in my body says no

“I feel…” Shitty… cheated… torn… disgusted… angry… dark… twisty… not being able to feel loved or love ever again… Meredith frowned. This was completely bananas and so not going to help but right then she couldn’t think of another opportunity. Plus she was already freaking out, so… “I dun… dunno.” She screwed up her eyes but it didn’t help to find out the colour of her mood either. “This doesn’t work on me, Iz.”

“You’re questioning my methods.” said Izzie, narrowing her brown eyes.

“I’m not questioning it,” replied Meredith petulantly, “I’m saying it’s stupid.”

“Okay, let’s try another approach.” Meredith could almost hear Izzie’s brain working. “How do you want to feel like tonight?” asked she at last.

Okay, this was easy. She could answer that. A piece of cake. “Like a person… a really cheerful… free of lovesickness… moving on… ready to kiss a guy again… sexy… kick all the other women’s asses… kind of person.”

What will bring me home?
What will make me stay, stay?
What will bring me home?
What will make me stay, stay?

“Well, how about the red one then?”

“Too slutty. I don’t wanna feel slutty until tequila’s served.”

“Pink?”

“Too bright and shiny. I’m still dark and twisty, remember?”

Izzie wrinkled her nose. “Mer, don’t take it personally… but you’re a dead loss.”

“Go away!! I’ll pick my own damn dress!” She hurled another shoe at Izzie who ran out to the hallway laughing.

Well I don't know
I don't know, ooh
I don't know
I don't know, ooh

The sound of the phone almost startled her up. She riffled through the tons and tons of dresses, swearing, desperately looking for the damn thing, and when she finally found it in one of her shoes she answered without checking the caller’s ID…

“I’m very busy and on the edge of exploding so you better make it quick!”

“Guess who’s here!” the voice on the other end of the line babbled cheerfully.

For a moment, Meredith forgot how busy she actually was. “Addi! You’re back? How was New York?”

“Just like you, busy and on the edge of exploding. That’s why I seriously need to get away from that whole law stuff. I thought about going to that new Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills tonight and I still need a date...

“Uhm, actually…” Meredith bit her lower lip. “I already have plans for tonight.”

“Oh…” Addison sounded slightly disappointed. “Well, I guess I just gonna watch some videos then… Just me and an XL bag of potato chips…”

“I’m sorry, Derek just invited me to that charity thing and I rather would stay at home myself but…-”

“Who’s Derek?”

“Derek Shepherd.”

“Derek Shepherd? THE Derek Shepherd? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!”

Meredith had to hold the phone several inches away from her ear because Addison started to squeal in excitement. “No, I’m not… We met at the Globes, did a little chitchat in his suite…-”

“YOU’VE BEEN IN HIS SUITE? I HATE YOU!”

“WOULD YOU JUST STOP YELLING AT ME, ADDI! We just talked, okay, nothing happened and nothing is going to happen.”

“Because you’re still ruined.”

I. Am not. Ruined. Just… not ready for love stuff yet. I will be… someday… soonish.”

“Oh my God, you’re soo ruined…” Meredith could almost hear her rolling her eyes. “As your lawyer and your friend I tell you that you need help, immediately. And because I am very unselfish I volunteer to accompany you tonight, just in case you know.”

Meredith chuckled. “Sure… Be ready at 7:30, we pick you up then…” The telephone line crackled. “Addi? Hello?” She hung up. “Well, I’ll take this as a Yes…”
