âHeeeey Luke?â Mia leaned against the counter âMh?â âI just wondered if you could do me a favor. Iâd like you to take care of Lorelai, you know, take her to places, show her around, keep her entertained, that sort of thing. You think you could do this for me? Please?â The sound of her name made his ears peak up and he glanced up at Mia. âIâm supposed to play babysitter for some business partner of yours?â he feigned annoyance so that noone noticed how excited he was about the idea âYes, please, sheâs really great and I donât wanna lose her, âkay? You can take her to the movies, the zoo, whatever, Iâll pay for everything. Say yes or Iâll tell everybody about that shirt I got you when you were littleâ she winked at him and he gasped: âYou wouldnât!â âOh yes I would, come on, weâll tell her about out little arrangementâ
Lorelai propped her chin on her hand and looked out of the windows. This town was so small it was unbelievable. What was she gonna do all day long? Here, in the middle of nowhere? She sighed at the thought and prepared herself for a looong weekend.
Mia returned to their table with Luke in tow. âLorelai, may I introduce you to your town guide for this weekend, Mister Lucas. You can have a little fun together, visit places and stuff, itâs always nicer to have someone who knows whatâs going on around here donât you think?â Lorelai looked at Mia in amazement and then turned to look at Luke, trying to gauge his reaction to this. He could have sworn that he saw her eyes light up when Mia mentioned that sheâd have company this weekend, although he wasnât sure if it was just the company or the person that made up this company. Lorelai smiled âOkay, Iâm gonna go back to the inn, change into something less⦠business like and Iâll just come back here when Iâm ready, it that okay?â she asked casually, packing the stacks of paper away and walking to the door âYeah sureâ he cleared his throat to say something wittier than that, but she beat him to it âLater!â she waved and out the door she was.
