âWow, your babies are gonna look really pretty!â Mia smirked in Lukeâs direction âExcuse me?â âI said-â âNo I heard what you said, but I didnât quite catch the joke there!â âThere was none, Iâm totally seriousâ âMIA!â Luke looked at her incredulously âThereâs nothing there, honestly!â âLucas, Iâve known you for almost your entire life so donât try to bullshit me here. Iâve seen the sparkle in your eye and the expression on your face when you look at her, I notice the way you smile at her, you hardly ever smile at anyone. So donât tell me thereâs nothing there!â he sighed, she knew him too well
âLook, Mia, sheâs out of my league. Sheâs a goddamn high-society lady and what am I? A diner-owner who can barely make enough money to keep himself alive! She could have any guy she wanted, I mean: look at her, sheâs dazzling, sheâs smart, sheâs funny⦠She sure as hell would never choose me, what would her friends say if they knew she dated a poor guy like me! And it would never work out cause she could never be sure if Iâm just in it for her money and there would be constant mistrust in our relationship.â âWhatever you say Lucasâ¦..â Mia trailed off and walked towards the door. With her hand on the doorknob she turned around ââ¦but you can never decide where Cupid decides to strikeâ she smiled at him and closed the door behind her.
Half an hour later, Lorelai had changed from suit into her light blue âI heart PHDâ T-shirt and some Capri Jeans and walked back to the Diner. Luke was just busy with a customer but couldnât help but notice her stepping inside; seeing her casually attired was something new to him but he didnât mind at all. Lorelai spotted Luke with a customer and gave him a quick wave. He finished taking the order and handed it to Caesar. âAre you gonna be okay here Caesar? Alone?â he asked for the umpteenth time today âYES and now get the hell outta here before I have to kick you you-know-where!â
So Luke complied and joined Lorelai outside. He offered her his arm and she wound hers around his. âSoooo, where are we going now?â âAaah yeah I havenât really decided on this one yet, cause thereâs not much to do around Stars Hollow, so I figured Iâll just make up the schedule as we go alongâ âSounds fair to meâ He could take me to a garbage dump, I wouldnât even notice let alone mind
âOkay, thereâs the gazebo over hereâ he pointed towards it
âItâs really old and we rarely use it, but itâs nice to look at. Over thereâs Miss Pattyâs, sheâs a dance instructor and probably the most gossipy woman in town next to Babette. But Iâll tell her about Babette when we pass her house. This is the Stars Hollow High, I only went 3 years, then I transferred to Chilton âcause I got this scholarship and I really enjoyed it there, you know, uniforms, no peer pressure where clothing is concerned and so on. Anyway, they have a killer hockey team, so if youâre interested in sports-â âIâm notâ Lorelai interrupted immediately âOookay, not interested in sports. Wow. How can you not be interested in sports?â âAaah, Iâm no guy?â âNo kidding! Thank God you pointed that out, I wouldnât have noticed it!â he smiled at her and she couldnât help bit grin back at him lop-sided.
