"Rory!", rief er. Sie drehte sich um und entdeckte ihn. Sofort stellte sich wieder dieser traurige Blick auf ihrem Gesicht ein. Sie wollte sich wieder umdrehen, von ihm fort gehen, ihre Beziehung weiter auseinander bringen. Doch dieses Mal ließ Jess sie nicht. Er hielt sie am Arm. Seine Berührung wirkte bei ihr wie ein Brandmal. Er schmerzte zur Grenze des Unendlichen.
"Bitte rede mit mir. Rory, bitte sag mir was los ist!" Dass sie das noch erleben durfte. Jess Mariano. Mr. Cool. Mr. Bad Boy. Der nie Gefühle zeigte. Und jetzt? Jetzt stand er vor ihr, beinahe hilflos, und flehte sie an, mit ihm zu reden. Welch Ironie doch dahinter steckte. Sonst war immer sie es gewesen, die ihn angefleht hatte, mit ihr zu reden. Und jetzt, wo alles vorbei war, kehrte sich das Blatt.

"Jess ... ", fing sie an, stockte und brach wieder ab. Sie sah auf den Boden. Es ging nicht ohne Tränen. Die ersten bahnten sich ihren Weg über ihre Wangen. Sie konnte einfach die Worte der anderen nicht vergessen. Die alles entscheidende Worte Aarons. Was er getan hatte.
"Rory, verdammt nochmal sag mir was los ist! Gib mir einen verdammten Grund, und ich schör dir ich lass dich in Ruhe!!" Bittend sah er sie an. "Was ist denn nur los?"
Jetzt schluchzte Rory wirklich. Es brach einfach einfach ein zu großes Stück Schmerz in ihr. "Jess ... ich kann nicht mit dir zusammen sein!", weinte sie.
"Wieso nicht?", fragte Jess verzweifelt.
Rory vergrub das Gesicht in den Händen. "Jess, ich weiß alles! Ich weiß was damals passiert ist! Sie haben es mir erzählt... Von dem Einbruch ... und dass du einen Menschen auf dem Gewissen hast! Wie konntest du nur? Wie konntest du mir das nur verschweigen! Ich dachte, du liebst mich!"

Ihre Welt wankte. Alles war kaputt gegangen, seit sie die verhängnisvollen Sätzte gehört hatte. Ihre Tränen wollten nicht versiegen. Strömten in Bächen über ihr Gesicht.
Jess sah sie mit offenem Mund an. "Aber ich liebe dich!", sagte er geschockt.
"Nein!" Rory schüttelte den Kopf. "Wenn du mich wirklich lieben würdest, hättest du mir das alles nicht verschwiegen. Aber so ...." Die Tränen liefen weiter. Sie wegzuwischen wäre sinnlos gewesen. "Ich will dich nie wieder sehen!"
