The 10th Kingdom (Kathryn Wesley)
kurze Voranmerkung: das is ein Fantasy-Buch. 2 New Yorker landen in der Welt der Märchen.
Tony took off his watch an waved it. He was certain thes creatures had never seen anything like it before.
"This is a hand-worn clock," Tony said. "See, it's got miniature hands, and it tells the time perfectly."
The Tooth Fairy walked across the room and swung open a cupboard door. Inside were fifty gold and silver pocket watches.
"I know," the Tooth Fairy said. "We call them watches."
Wolf bei der Psychologin:
"Now, then, " she said. She had an accent he didn't recognize. "I'm going to say a word, and I want you to give me the first word that comes to mind."
He grabbed a pencil from a nearby table. The wood felt good in his hands. Then he stuck it in his mouth. Dr. Horovitz was looking at him expectantly. What had she said? Words. She'd say one, he'd say one.
He coul do that. He nodded.
"Home -" Dr. Horovitz said.
"Cooking," Wolf replied.
"Coward -"
"Chicken"
"Wedding -"
"Cake."
"Dead -"
"Meat."
"Sexual -"
"Appetite."
"Love -"
"To eat anything fluffy." Wolf snapped the pencil in half. He was more nervous than he thought. Dr. Horovitz was staring at him. He shrugged. "Sorry, more than one word. Start again."
"All right, all right." Wolf leaned forward and grabbed Dr. Horovitz's arm. "Doc, I've met this terrific girl, and I really, really, really like her. But the thing is..."
[...]"Say it," Dr. Horovitz encouraged gently. "Say it."
Wolf grabbed the arm of the chair, trying to restrain himself, but unable to. "I'm not sure wether I... I... I want to love her or eat her."

Oh my bags are packed I'm ready to go I'm standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breaking it's early morn the taxi's waitin' he's blowing his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die
