[FONT=&quot]I can’t stand to fly, I’m not that naïve, I’m just out to find the better part of me.[/FONT]


[FONT=&quot]“This can’t be her… but it is her…”[/FONT][FONT=&quot] Luke thought, while reading the letter a second time.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]He looked up into Jess’ and Rory’s faces. Doubts were mirrored in them.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Finally Rory asked,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“It’s her, isn’t it? I mean the whole running away thing? It has to be her.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Yeah,” Luke just mumbled absent-mindedly. His thoughts already twirled into another direction.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Jess,” he started. “Did you receive this letter by mail?” [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]There was so much longing and hope in this question that Jess felt the strong urge to hug his uncle but he thought better of it. Instead he answered,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Yes, I did.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]For the first time in nearly seven months Luke’s face shimmered not with tears but with delight. It seemed like there finally was a weak flicker of hope. But nevertheless it took him a few more moments before he spoke again. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Please tell me, you still have the envelope,” he said already knowing the answer because Jess was fumbling in his bag, yet. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Finally Jess found what he was looking for and handed a slightly crinkled envelope to Luke. He took it with trembling hands. The address, too, wasn’t written manually but there definitely was a stamp.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]For a short moment Luke closed his eyes, took a deep breath then looked at it closer. For a split of a second it seemed like the postmark had lost its way because of rain or something but then Luke could decipher the writings. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Seattle, Washington[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Again, Luke sprang up and without a word stepped into Rory’s old room to switch on the computer. Mia, Sookie, Rory and Jess slowly followed him and sat down behind him. Each of them was wondering what on earth Luke wanted to look up in the internet, but they didn’t dare to ask him. For the first time in months, Luke seemed to be happy, he almost smiled and neither of them wanted to disturb him, so they just sat there in silence. A few minutes passed without a word, the only sound was Luke’s typing. Finally, Luke turned around to face the others and said,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“You’re helping me, right?”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Yeah, of course. But with what?”
“I’ve searched for doctors in Seattle. She must have gone to one of them at some point. It’s just like you said, Mia, we’ve got a guideline. And if this letter is really from Lorelai…”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]He stopped and didn’t speak further. If she really was in Seattle it couldn’t be so hard to find her. Luke knew that. But he didn’t dare to think about it, he would be really crushed if it wouldn’t work out the way he hoped.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Look,” he finally continued. “I’m not crazy… or anything. But it’s the only the chance we have, isn’t it?”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]The others looked at each other then back to Luke. Slowly, all the four of them nodded.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Yeah, you’re right.”[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Half an hour later, they all were sitting in front of their cell phones with a piece of paper with numbers of Seattle’s doctors in their hands.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]The next two hours passed with a lot of unsuccessful phone calls. Not one of the many doctors had ever heard of a Lorelai Danes nor of a Lorelai Gilmore. The excitement that had filled the room in the previous hours was slowly shuffled aside by disappointment. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Rory, Jess and Sookie were already done with their lists and watched Mia and Luke eagerly. A few minutes later, Mia, too, had finished her list disappointed and said,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“I told them they should look out for her, but what’s the point? Maybe it wasn’t her letter at all.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Nobody dared to say anything. But in silence all of them agreed with her. All of them - except Luke. He was so convinced that it was Lorelai’s letter that he just didn’t stop calling. But there were only two numbers left on his list. For the thousands time it seemed to him, he dialed a number.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Hello, Doctor’s Office Dr. Derek Sutherland. How can I help you?” a friendly female voice answered.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Hello, this is Luke Danes. Erm… I’m searching for my wife. Lorelai Danes or Lorelai Gilmore? Has she ever been at your place?”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“I’m really sorry, Mr. Danes but I’m not allowed to talk about our patients. I’m sorry.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Yeah, I understand but you have to know, my wife’s missing. We are searching for her for almost 8 months now. Please, you have to tell me … just something,” Luke almost begged now.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]There were a few moments silence on the other end then the woman said,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Okay, I can look her up, but I can do no more.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“That’s okay. Thank you,” Luke replied.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Again silence. Luke heard nothing but some clicks on the other end. Then, after what seemed like hours to him, the woman said,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“I’m really sorry, but there’s not Lorelai Gilmore or Danes… we have a Lorelai here but it’s not your wife, I’m sorry.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Luke sighed deeply. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“So close,” he thought.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]But suddenly, a thought occurred to his mind. Crazy Lorelai…[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“I’m sorry,” he started. “Is there any chance you could tell me the last name of that Lorelai?”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Somehow confused, the woman answered, “Yeah, it’s Lorelai Lundt. Kind of weird name, isn’t it?”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Lundt,” Luke said more to himself than to the woman. “Lundt… why do I know the name?”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“I’m sorry?” the woman asked.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Uh, nothing. Thank you, I really appreciated your help,” Luke said and hung up.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]He turned to the others, who gave him a startled look.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“What’s up?” Rory asked.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Does the name Lundt sound familiar to you?” he asked, almost desperately.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]A few moments silence then an idea suddenly seemed to reach Rory’s mind.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“Lundt! Of course, it’s Casablanca! Ilsa Lundt! Mom’s favorite movie.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Luke looked up. He remembered watching the movie with her way before they got together. Lorelai had mocked him over the whole film because he had had never seen it before. But did this mean that this Lorelai Lundt really was his Lorelai? It seemed crazy enough to be true. But wasn’t it too far-fetched? Wasn’t it just a weird coincidence?[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Mia, who seemed to have read his thoughts said,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“It’s possible, isn’t it? I mean it’s worth a try. We should try it.”[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Silently, Luke nodded, got up, once again taking seat in front of the computer and booked two flights – for him and Rory – to Seattle.[/FONT]
