He sped down the forest road, not caring about speed limits and driving restrictions, all that was on his mind was Lorelai.
When he saw her black SUV, the police cars and the ambulance in front of the cabin, his heart rate picked up a higher speed and walking toward the entrance of the small hut he felt his palms get sweaty and cold.
The police had their hands full with handling Julian and the paramedics were busy getting everything ready.
He stole a peek into the room and his heart stopped.
Lorelai was spread eagled on the bed, on her stomach, naked and shivering, propped up in the middle by a pillow under her pelvis, shaking badly.
He wanted to run over to her, but a police officer held him back
âNo sir, leave it to the paramedicsâ
Luke had to use up every ounce of willpower in him to not strangle the guy immediately but maybe he was right.
So he let the paramedics pass and watched them untie Lorelai from the bed.
She was crying hard now, all the held-back tears from the last few days finally making their escape while she was wrapped in a blanket and sat down on a chair nearby.
She rocked back and forth, hugging herself, her whole body shaking.
A woman approached her and asked if she wanted to talk about it
âNO!â Lorelai yelled and the woman retreated quickly.
âDo I wanna talk about itâ¦. Geezâ¦â Lorelai pulled her blankets tighter around herself, trying to warm up a little, but the cold wasnât coming from outside, she felt it radiating from inside, her organs cold as ice. âI only wanna talk to one person right now and thereâs absolutely no chance that heâs coming, soâ¦..â She sighed deeply.
âSir? Sir?â A paramedic tapped Lukeâs shoulder who was so engrossed in watching Lorelai that he didnât notice anything going on around him âHuh?â âShe doesnât wanna talk to anybody but she keeps repeating a name over and over again, do you know any Luke?â He cleared his throat, taken aback âUh, yeah, thatâs me, why?â âI talked to her psychologist and she agreed that it would be good to let you talk to her, it may help her relieve the stress a little and maybe sheâll even talk about itâ Luke merely nodded, walking over to her silently, standing before her, unmoving.
