The CW who has seen its ratings dwindling since merging two underdog networks, the WB and UPN has sprung to a new deal. The CW who has already axed '7th Heaven' and will surely lose 'Gilmore Girls' as well is looking for new primetime hits. 'Hidden Palms' and 'Gossip Girls' are its two biggest contenders for the upcoming year. Hoping 'Hidden Palms' will smash in the summer at a less competitive timeslot, Dawn Ostroff had this to say, "We really hope that 'Hidden Palms' can shed some light on our dismal Tuesday nights for the 2007-2008 season." Ostroff also made mention on how she hopes 'Palms' will become a summer success much like that of 'The OC' from the summer of 03'. Coincidentally she refused to pick-up The OC from FOX for a fifth season on the CW. "We just felt that 'The OC' had already seen its glory days, and we would be pushing the envelope by making the show poorer and less advertised."
Ostroff has made notice that if 'Hidden Palms' reaches an average of at least 4.5 million viewers for its summer season, it could easily be picked up and affiliated with a prime-time schedule for the 07-08 season. 'Gossip Girls' which is produced by 'OC's' Josh Schwartz will hopefully be the first primetime hit for the CW. They are paying through the nose for it. Ostroff noted "We want 'Girls' to be successful, and for once we want to have the show with 6+ million viewers and the show voted 'Best Guilty Pleasure.'" So what does this mean for current teen favorites on the CW such as 'One Tree Hill' and 'Veronica Mars.' Ostroff had nothing to say of Veronica Mars but noted that One Tree Hill would "find its fate in May." Looks like teen dramas are finally perking up.
