âMhm explain to me again why this stupid train is leaving so early?â Lorelai clung to her boyfriend, arms around his neck, still half asleep.
They were checking in at Delta - JFK Airport for the machine to Frankfurt, Germany, where they would change planes to a smaller one that would bring them to Innsbruck, Austria.
âLorelai, come on, I have to get out the tickets, can you stand alone for two seconds?â
âNoâ came the muffled reply immediately.
âBig Baby, just for two secondsâ He pushed her away a little, letting her stand alone for a while.
She groaned and wanted to lean on the nearest person, who happened to be a very old, very grim looking German grandpa but Luke grabbed her around the waist with his free hand, keeping her from harassing other passengers while the other hand rummaged through her untidy handbag, where he supposed she had put the tickets.
âI canât believe you didnât check if you had the tickets!â he grumbled but eventually found them under tons of make up, a fashion magazine, several chewing gums and her pair of glasses.
She switched her mood from grumpy to cranky in milliseconds.
âLuuuke Iâm tireeeeeedâ she whined. He sighed, exasperated and chose to ignore her, handing the friendly and perky ground stewardess their passports and tickets, accepting their boarding passes, dragging Lorelai away from the huge line, glad that the luggage had already been taken care of.
He looked down at her âYou want some coffee?â
âI already had five, Luke, if I have another I probably wonât even come out of the bathroom the entire flight. Iâm hungryyyâ
There was the Whining again. Luke looked around, then at his watch.
âHon, I think we should get to the waiting area, Iâm not entirely sure how bad the security checks are gonna beâ¦â
âHm, fineâ she pouted, then let him drag her to the passport control where they had to leave their fingerprints as well, as their pictures, then to their gate, past the very good smelling coffee shops and the McDonalds, where he had to grab her waist extra hard to stop her from breaking away from him and running to her beloved food.
But security checks had taken up way more time than they planned so their schedule was pretty tight.
âLore, a little faster, weâre already running pretty lateâ he pleaded with her, panicking slightly. When she didnât speed up he just scooped her up, threw her over his shoulder and walked briskly to Gate 32, where the Delta airplane was glistening in the sunlight already, loaded up with kerosene and ready for take-off.
Luke set the protesting Lorelai down before the counter and handed the stewardess boarding passes and passports again, thanking her for wishing them a safe and pleasant trip. Then Lorelai grasped Lukes hand tightly in hers, sighing happily.
âThis is it. Our vacation has officially begun!â
They smiled at each other, Lorelai of course beaming more than Luke before they started walking down the gangway, the thundering of the planes machines ringing in their ears.
