At the same time in Stars Hollow: Lorelai entered “Luke’s Diner” after an exhausting Friday Night Dinner at her parent’s house and sat down at the counter. Alarmed by the ringing of the doorbell Luke came out of the kitchen holding a can of coffee in one hand and a big mug in the other. He already knew that it could only be Lorelai ‘cause she came here every Friday after dinner and needed her coffee.
“Hey, how was dinner?” He placed the mug in front of Lorelai and pourred some of the hot black liquid in. “Don’t ask.” She took one big sip out of the mug and put it down again. “Just what I needed.” “That bad?”, Luke seemed sincerely interested. “I had to explain to my parents why their beloved grandchild didn’t come to dinner today’s evening and why I haven’t told them about Rory’s absence earlier.” “Why?”, Lorelai nearly screamed. “I can tell you why! Beacause a few hours ago I myself didn’t know where my daughter is! And you know my parents: They would have ripped my head off and never stopped telling me what a horrible mother I am!” “You’re a great mother”, Luke tried to calm her down: “Rory loves you and…” “… and still she d hasn’t told me where she is!” “But now you know?” Lorelai glared at him: “She’s in Pennsylvania. With that damn nephew of yours!” “Jess?” “Is there any other nephew I don’t know of? Of course Jess!” “Rory is with Jess in Pennsylvania?!” He looked at her totally flabbergasted. “I said that, didn’t I?” “What are thy doing in Pennsylvania?”, Luke didn’t seem to completely get the whole situation yet, which really began to annoy Lorelai: “I don’t know what they’re doing there. The only thing Rory told me is that they are going to spent the holidays together.” “Why?” “I don’t know why! But it must have been Jess idea. Rory wouldn’t do something like that!” “Well, she did.”, Luke stated. “But only because Jess told her to.” “Don’t you think Rory is old enough to make her own decisions? She would have never gone with him if she didn’t want it.” Lorelai grew more and more angry. She knew it wasn’t Luke’s fault but the evening had been so terrible that she simply needed smoeone she could yell at. “My daughter would never have gone with him without telling me before!” Now she was close to crying and got up. “I guess it’s better if I’d go now.” Luke didn’t say a word.
“Bye, Luke.” And then she was out of the diner, leaving Luke behind, who was looking after her for a few minutes, before he went back to work.
