LORELAI: Now, this last one’s a little more gory. I’m out hunting –

RORY: A favorite Lorelai Gilmore pastime.

LORELAI: And my shotgun backfires and my whole face spins around a bunch of times and winds up in the back of my head like Daffy Duck.





  Daffy Duck ist eine Zeichentrickfigur im Besitz der Warner  Bros., die vor allem durch ihre Auftritte in den Reihen „Looney Tunes“  Berühmtheit erlangte.

  In  einer Folge bleibt der  Schnabel auf der Rückseite des Kopfes hängen,  nachdem Daffy einen Schuss aus der Flinte abbekommen hat.

 

  Lorelai sagt, sie hätte geträumt, ihr Gewär wäre von hinten  losgegangen und ihr Gesicht wäre umhergewirbelt und wäre dann an ihrem  Hinterkopf wieder rausgekommen, wie bei Daffy Duck.

  LANE: Perfectly – it’s totally time efficient, being a thirty-second  commute from my house. We practice for two hours, I’m home in time to  watch reruns of Johnny Yune’s talk show on Korean television with my mom, who thinks I hooked up with you guys – which I did, so I’m not even lying.





  Johnny Yune ist ein aus Korea stammender Komiker und  Schauspieler, der von 1989 bis 1990 eine Fernsehshow nach amerikanischem  Vorbild im Koreanischen Fernsehen hatte.





  Lane meint, sie hätte zwei Stunden zeit zum Proben, käme dann  gerade rechtzeitig nachhause, um mit ihrer Mum Wiederholungen dieser  Show zu sehen.

  DAVE: Zach, come on, we just got started.

ZACH: Dude, Lawrence Welk cranked louder than this. It’s a waste of time.





  Lawrence Welk war ein US-amerikanischer Big Band Leader, der in den USA durch seine TV-Show bekannt war. Er spielte auch Akkordeonmusik.





  Da sie nicht laut spielen dürfen, meint Zach, sogar Welk hätte lauter gespielt.

  LANE: I know, I just don’t wanna leave the band.

DAVE: What? You can’t leave the band. That’s not what anybody wants,  especially me. Lane, listen to me, okay – you’re perfect for us, it’s  working.

LANE: So I have to figure out a way to rehearse in Hartford two or three nights a week.

DAVE: There’s no way you’re gonna become our Pete Best. There’s no way.

LANE: You’re sweet.

August  1962 spielten die Beatles zum letzten Mal gemeinsam mit Pete Best.  Einen Tag später teilte Brian Epstein ihm mit, dass die anderen ihn  nicht mehr in der Gruppe haben wollten.[/font]





  [font=&quot]Lane hat Angst das sie die Band verlassen muss, daher sagt Dave, ihr werde es nicht so ergehen wie Best.[/font]

RORY: I suspected you had it in you.

LORELAI: From rags to riches. . .I wonder why Larry King hasn’t called.





  Larry King  moderierte bis vor kurzem die Interviewsendung Larry King live auf CNN.





  Lore meint, da sie es von 0 zu Erfolgreich geschafft hätte, wäre es  komisch, das King noch nicht angerufen hat, um sie über ihren Aufstieg  zu interviewen.

Lorelai: My friend the Sultan of Brunei is so hard to pin down.





  Hassanal Bolkiah ist der Sultan und Yang Di-Pertuan von Brunei.

  Er residiert im Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan, dem größten  Palast der Erde. Mit einem Vermögen von mehr als 20 Milliarden  US-Dollar zählt er zu den reichsten Menschen der Welt und den fünf  reichsten Monarchen.





  Lore sagt der Sultan wäre ihr Freund, hätte aber keine Zeit. Damit  spielt sie darauf an, dass, weil sie auch berühmt und reich ist, sie mit  diesem befreundet ist.

Lane: I feel like I should be singing If I Only Had a Brain.





  If I Only Had a Brain ist ein Song aus dem 1932er Film The Wizard of Oz. Er wird von der Vogelscheuche, die gelbe Haare hat gesungen.





  Lane ist mittlerweile Strohblond, wie die Vogelscheuche, deshalb fühlt sie sich, als müsse sie das Lied singen.

  Lorelai: It wasn't funny.

Luke: Not from your angle. From mine it was An Evening at the Improv.





  The Improv ist ein Comedyclub. Das LA Improv war der ursprüngliche Standort der Fernsehserie An Evening at the Improv.



  Luke fand Lores „Auftritt“ so lustig wie diese TV-Show mit Comedians.

  JESS: Look, Shane freaked when she heard you guys coming. Next thing I  know, she’s in there. I personally didn’t care if you guys saw us or  not, but hey – women, right? You can’t live with ‘em, you can’t keep ‘em  from jumping in the closet.

LUKE: Uh, you and I have got to have a little talk.

JESS: Hey, if you’re gonna get all Ward Cleaver on me, I gotta go call Eddie and Lumpy and tell ‘em I’m gonna be late.





  Das sind Figuren aus Leave it to Beaver. Ward Cleaver ist der Vater  der zwei Söhne, um die es in der Serie geht. Lumpy und Eddie sind die  Freunde des Sohns Wally.







  Luke möchte mit Jess ganz offensichtlich über Mädchen und Sex reden, Jess macht sich lustig und vergleicht ihm mit Ward Cleaver.

  LORELAI: You like Jimmy Buffett? He’s so mellow.

LUKE: I’ve just been to a few shows, that’s all.

LORELAI: A few shows? Oh my God, you’re a Buffetthead.

LUKE: Is that the one you want me to wear or not?

LORELAI: Sing Margaritaville.





  James William „Jimmy“ Buffett (* 25. Dezember 1946 in  Pascagoula, Mississippi) ist ein US-amerikanischer Country- und  Pop-Sänger und Songwriter sowie Buchautor. Sein bekanntester Hit ist „Margaritaville“ aus dem Jahr 1977. Als Buffetthead werden wohl Fans dieses Sängers bezeichnet. Fans tragen hawaii-hemden.

 

  Lorelai entdeckt ein Hemd, das nach Jimmy Buffett aussieht.

  Pip pip ist eine phrase um Enthusiasmus und Freud zu verbreiten.





  Lore will Luke ja aufheitern, da der keine Lust auf den Vortrag aht.

RORY: Get the camera.

LANE: I am a Kodak picture spot.





  Ein Kodak Photo Spot ist eine Location, die mit einem Kodak gesponsorten Schild anzeigt, das die sein guter Platz für eine Fotografie sei.



  Lane meint, sie sei das perfekte Objekt für ein Foto.

LORELAI: Really, ‘cause usually I like to meet up at Sardi’s after a performance, wait for the reviews. I hope The Times liked me. Nothing, huh?





  Sardi's ist ein Restaurant in New York in Times Square Nähe wo  ja bekanntlich die meisten Broadway-Theater sind und nach  Premieren-Aufführungen gehen Producer, Cast, etc. dorthin und man wartet  dort auf die Reviews der Kritiker und natürlich auch die Kritik aus der  New York Times.





  Lorelai meint, sie wartet im Sardi´s , um die Reviews ihres Auftritts in der High School abzuwarten.

RORY: Absolutely, put it in the victory column



Das ist die Siegessäule. Rory meint hiermit vermutlich, dass sie auch  eine säule als zeichen des sieges brauchen könnten oder sowas :biggrin:

LANE: Wait, no, Brian, I’m not exaggerating. Once, a guy in our town named Kirk was practicing Bohemian Rhapsody with his band, the Kirk Gleason Five, and my mom shut them down so fast that the band fled without their instruments and never came back for them. To this day, Kirk can’t listen to Queen without tearing up.







Bohemian Rhapsody ist ein Song von 1975 vom Album A Night at the Opera der Band Queen.

Die Kirk Gleason 5 sind eine mögliche Anspielung auf Bands mit ähnlcihem Namen:

  DAVE: Because we’re supposed to be a one-for-all band like the Clash or U2 – it’s a democracy.







The Clash gilt als eine der einflussreichsten frühen Punkbands  neben anderen Bands wie den Ramones und den Sex Pistols. Sie  verarbeiteten Einflüsse aus Reggae, Folk und verschiedener Popmusik.

  LANE: It depends on what I’m looking for. Of course, all the great Seventh Day Adventist schools were represented, with their ban on dancing, gum chewing and bowling. Quaker College was a delightful surprise, with its special appeal to Richard Nixon, who’s dead but still deeply involved in campus recruiting. Oh, and the piece de resistance! She found an Amish school in Nicaragua. Nicaragua! A big shout out to Mama Kim on that one!

Thinking about where Vin Diesel got the name Vin Diesel. Thinking about Vin Diesel's mysterious ethnicity. Thinking about how surprising it is to have so much to think about with Vin Diesel. Who knew, who knew? Okay, now I'm just thinking about the pain, we’re into pain here.

Snoopy war der Hund des Charakters Charlie Brown und konnte reden. Er ist sehr süß.

Die Szene, in der die ganzen gleichaussehenden Stars Hollow Suburb Moms auf Lore zugehen könnte  eine Anpsielung auf den Film "Zwölf Uhr Mittags" von 1952.

Lore sagt auch "High Noon in Stars Hollow".

Ntürlich ist das mitllerweile auch einfach eine Phrase für eine solche Cowboyähnliche Situation.

Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah ist ein Song von Allie Wrubel und Ray Gilbert, der 1946 veröffentlicht wurde. 1948 erhielt er den Oscar in der Kategorie Bester Song. Er wurde für  den Film Onkel Remus’ Wunderland (engl. Song of the South) geschrieben.
