Fagin ist eine bis heute populäre und zur Diskussion Anlass gebende fiktive literarische Figur im Gesellschaftsroman Oliver Twist, den der englische Schriftsteller Charles Dickens zwischen 1837 und 1839 veröffentlichte.


Dickens zeichnet mit dieser Figur einen jüdischen Hehler und Boss einer Diebesbande und stattete sie mit typischen antisemitischen Stereotypen aus, die aber in Folgeauflagen des Buches und vor allem den zahlreichen späteren Bearbeitungen, die der Stoff erfahren hat, immer weiter abgemildert und dann bis zur Unkenntlichkeit verwässert und beseitigt wurden (die zweite Kinofassung von 1948 in den USA war noch wegen Antisemitismus jahrelang verboten).
Generationen von Kindern in der englischsprachigen Welt hatten seit der Entstehung und Verbreitung des Romans ihren ersten Eindruck von dem, was und wie Juden angeblich sind, durch diesen Klassiker der Kinderliteratur erhalten, der auch oft verfilmt wurde: Fagin als ekelhaft aussehender Verbrecher, der arme Waisenkinder zu Dieben macht, sie malträtiert, mit hochprozentigem Alkohol abfüllt und dann, wenn sie geschnappt werden, ihrem Schicksal überlässt. Geldgierig und geizig war er überdies natürlich auch noch. Eben typisch jüdisch wie die nasale Sprechweise und das unausgesetzte Schulterzucken. Und damit auch klar ist, um wen und was es sich handelt, wird Fagin im Roman 275 Mal als „der Jude“ bezeichnet.
