anyway, the show must go on:
On Saturday morning Luke woke up extra early leaving Lorelai still sleeping â she just rolled around, mumbled something in her sleep and cuddled up to a pillow - to go check if the banner was already up, the tables and the tents set up, if the band was practicing avidly etc.
His mom was already there, supervising the flower arrangements, smiling as she stepped up to him.
âHowdy there, son!â
âOh geez mom, where did you pick that up??â
âIâm just kiddingâ¦. you should be used to teasing by now, considering the piece of work you got at homeâ she winked at him and hurried over to the flowers again to stop the workers from doing it wrong. He proudly looked around the square
âThis is gonna work!â
Lorelai woke up and sat up in bed groggily, looking around for Luke. When she didnât spot him she went over to the fridge and pulled some milk out, not bothering to take a glass. She went over to the window, pushed the curtains aside and overlooked the town square.
âHey, I didnât know there was a festival today!â she gasped, wondering why Luke hadnât told her.
Luckily, she couldnât see the Gazebo, where a huge banner was put up, giving away the reason for this festivity. She turned around when Luke entered the apartment, carrying a muffin in the one hand and a coffee cup in the other one and she beamed at him
âMorning!â
âMorning Sunshine, what did you do to my sleepyhead slash girlfriend?â âDonât mock, itâs too earlyâ she eagerly took her breakfast out of his hands and wrapped the one with the muffin around his neck
âKissâ she ordered and he obliged willingly .
When she finished picking up the crumbs from the table and drank the very last drop of coffee from her cup she got up from the table and walked over to Luke, sitting on his lap
âWhat do we do today, lover boy?â
âWell I was thinking that we could spend the morning here, being lazy, snuggling, making out, readingâ Lorelai scoffed
âReading, yeah right! Like we could do that, no be all over each other when left aloneâ
âAnywayâ he continued âI thought you might wanna walk around the lake in the afternoon and then weâll have dinner somewhere or Iâll cook something here. How does that sound?â
She considered for a moment âHmmm letâs go to the lake nowâ she jumped up but Luke caught her round the waist and pulled her back down âUm, how about Not?â he desperately tried to find a reason for her to stay inside till noon. She frowned at him
âHow about you tell me why you wanna stay inside on a day like this, huh?â
âAaah, well, seeâ¦.hem, yeah I dunno⦠I just wanna spend some time with you, alone and that right now!â
âYeah right, but Iâll let it go now cause youâre so sweet.â
She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him passionately.
âLuke, I-â Barbara walked into the room and Lorelai screamed, jumped off Luke like stung by a needle and almost tripped over the chair behind her if Luke hadnât grasped her hand at the last moment.
âIâm sorry, I didnât want to interrupt you, but Luke, everythingâs fine!â âThanks Mom!â Lorelai slowly turned from his departing mother to him âWhatâs fine Luke?â she asked suspiciously
âNothing you should worry about, just some deliveryâ
âWhew that was close!â he hated lying to her face
âCould you have been more awkward when my mother showed up?â he teased her
âI donât know what youâre talking aboutâ
âPlease, Lore, you jumped off me like you were on fire!â
âDid notâ she said stubbornly
âYou did too jump upâ
âI did jump, I wasnât awkwardâ
âYes honey, you were, yes you wereâ he cooed, then stopped himself as Lorelai was smirking at him
âOh gee, youâre already rubbing off!â Lorelai giggled, then hopped over to the bed and bounced on it.
She patted the spot next to her and Luke sat on the edge of the bed.
âCome over hereâ Lorelai laughed so Luke crawled over to her but her laughter turned into squeals when Luke started to tickle her mercilessly. âOh-God- MERCY!â she screamed in between fits of laughter, she squirmed away from Luke, but he grabbed her and puller her back for more tickling until Lorelai was so exhausted she didnât even put up a fight anymore, she just lay on her back, Luke hovering over her.
She reached up and ran a finger along his jawline, then up the side of his face as she traced his features. He leaned into her touch, closing his eyes. Lorelai cupped his face in her hands to pull him down for a kiss that quickly intensified when their tongues met, dueling fiercely.
When they broke apart, Luke looked into her usually bright blue eyes that were now dark and full of desire, but she kept shaking her head and he understood.
Even without words.
Around noon Luke literally had to peel his girlfriends from under the covers â where she had been hiding.
âCome ON Lore, letâs go!â
âMhm donâ wannaâ she mumbled sleepily.
âI have a surprise for youâ he said in a sing-song-voice.
This got her attention, she threw the covers away and sat there, excited âA surprise? What is it?? What? Is it something nice?â
âI⦠think soâ Luke answered vaguely
âBut youâre never gonna find out unless you go shower and get dressed right now okay?â
âSure, sureâ she murmured and shuffled into the bathroom.
Emerging ten minutes later clad in one of her sexy jeans and a white blouse she quickly applied some makeup, then joined Luke at the door to walk down.
When they walked out the Diner, Luke took her hand and led her into the direction of the town square
âHey, I know Iâm the new girl in town, but thatâs not the direction of theâ¦â she trailed off when Luke signaled her to be quiet and she cocked her head in confusion.
They stepped onto the town square and she saw that the whole town had gathered to celebrate, eat, have funâ¦
When they entered the picture every head snapped to them, looking at Lorelai and breaking out into applause.
Luke wrapped his hands around her from behind and turned her head gently so she was looking at the gazebo. And she almost fainted.
